ДАНИЦА НИКИЋ (1895-1943): Беинг а Wоман ин тхе Арт Wорлд
24 April – 8 June
Project coordinator: Angelina Rodić, curator

On Thursday, 24th April 2025, The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection will open the exhibition Danica Nikić (1895–1943): Being a Woman in the Art World, organised in collaboration with the Kovačević family to mark the 130th anniversary of the Novi Sad painter’s birth. With this exhibition, The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection continues to promote artists who worked during the same period as those whose works are kept in its repository, with a particular focus on women’s art, since a quarter of the works in Beljanski’s collection were created by female artists. As a painter, educator, and philanthropist, Danica Nikić made significant contributions to the emancipation of women in Serbia while also creating an oeuvre that enriches our understanding of Serbian painting between the two world wars. Based on the monograph Danica Nikić – Painter, Pedagogue, Benefactor by Dr. Vera Jovanović, the exhibition also contributes to the recognition of female artists active on the Novi Sad cultural scene during the first half of the 20th century. A rich programme has been prepared during the exhibition. The exhibition project was made possible by the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information, and Relations with Religious Communities.
