The collection of Pavle Beljanski includes self-portraits of artists such as Milan Milovanović, Milan Konjović, Sreten Stojanović, Zora Petrović and Ljubica Cuca Sokić, as well as sculpted portrait of Kosta Miličević by Živojin Lukić or Lisa Križanić by Ignjat Job. Pavle Beljanski’s idea to present the artists from the collection through portraits and self-portraits, but also through various written testimonies that would provide the visitors with an insight into different episodes from their lives, was implemented in 1971 by opening a special exhibition segment – the Artists’ Memorial. After the planned procurement of exhibits in the late 1960s, on the occasion of this opening event, a venture of items’ acquisition was undertaken with a goal to constantly update museum collections that would contribute to a fuller understanding of the collection and the era in which it was assembled. In addition to portraits and self-portraits of artists in various techniques (oil paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, cartoons, etc.), an integral part of the Artists’ Memorial is the documentary material which includes photographs, letters, personal documents and objects used by artists during their work such as brushes, paints, palettes.
