On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris, the exhibition “Sava Šumanović and Realisms in Europe Between the Two World Wars” will be held from May 26 to June 23, organized in cooperation with The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection and The Gallery Matica Srpska from Novi Sad. The exhibition is based on the project of the same name, which was implemented as one of the leading projects within the programme of the Foundation Novi Sad 2022 – European Capital of Culture, with the idea of presenting the latest research results showing Šumanović’s connection with French culture and the international Parisian scene through an exhibition at the Serbian Cultural Centre. The exhibition author is Milana Kvas MA, director of The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection. The exhibition will present nine paintings and four drawings from The Gallery of Matica Srpska and eight drawings from The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection, followed by animated videos of the paintings “Luncheon on the Grass” (The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection) and “Drunken Boat” (The Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade), and the exhibition will be complemented by a special video segment with important Šumanović’s paintings, as well as works by his role models and contemporaries from public and private collections. During the exhibition period, the art historian, Gordana Krstić Faye, will hold lectures on the topic. Promotion of the trilingual publication “Sava Šumanović and Realisms in Europe between the Two World Wars” is scheduled for the closing day of the exhibition, on June 23. It was published in 2022 by The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection. The availability of the publication in French and English allows researchers and the general public to learn more about the important aspects of Šumanović’s work. The exhibition and promotion of the publication are carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, with the support of the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities of AP Vojvodina and the French Institute in Serbia – Novi Sad Branch.
