HEROINES OF THE PAVLE BELJANSKI MEMORIAL COLLECTION IN ČAČAK
Art Gallery “Nadežda Petrović”, Čačak
15 April – 15 June

On Tuesday, April 15th, at 7 p.m., the exhibition Heroines of The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection will be opened at the Art Gallery “Nadežda Petrović” in Čačak. The exhibition, by the curators Prof. Milanka Todić, Milana Kvas M.A. and Dr. Valentina Vuković, was first opened to the public as an event of the “Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture” Foundation 2022. The curators of the Čačak exhibition are Danka Belić and Katarina Simeunović.
The Memorial Collection presents a unique legacy of international value, and its collection is composed of one-quarter of the artworks belonging to women artists. Beljanski shaped his collection from the early 1920s until his passing in 1965, and it includes works by seven female artists: Nadežda Petrović, Vidosava Kovačević, Liza Križanić, Zora Petrović, Leposava St. Pavlović, Ljubica Sokić, and Milica Zorić. The exhibition at the Art Gallery “Nadežda Petrović” in Čačak will feature a selection of 39 works by the mentioned artists. The innovation and modernity their art brought to the contemporary culture inspired the video presentation Identifications: Subtlety and Cruelty, created by Suzana Vuksanović M.A. It introduces seven present-day female artists and explores their connections to Novi Sad through stories of their education and life: Monika Sigeti, Jelena Vladušić, Jelena Janev, Jelena Kovačević Vorgučin, Milica Dukić, Zorica Čolić, and Dragana B. Stevanović. This has established a dialogue between the artworks from the collection and the art created by these Novi Sad female artists, thus creating the possibility to compare the themes and issues related to female art now and then. An additional programme will be held throughout the exhibition.
