Due to high public interest, the exhibition has been extended until 6th November. Preparations for its December showing at the National Library of Serbia will follow. The Belgrade exhibition will showcase eight of the most significant issues from the Collection of Books, accompanied by documentary text panels detailing the Collection’s history and an animated video highlighting key dates in Pavle Beljanski’s life.
The exhibition titled “The Library of Pavle Beljanski: from the Belgrade Art Salon to the Museum Collection”, curated by Milica Orlović Čobanov, is opened at The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection on Thursday, 11th July by Professor Dr. Vladislava Gordić Petković, literary critic and theorist.
The exhibition presents the book collection of a diplomat Pavle Beljanski, established through a donation from his heirs in 1966. His library is one of the eight significant museum segments, alongside the collection of modern Yugoslav 20th-century art, which The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection is widely known for. It mostly comprises books in European languages dating from the mid-18th to the mid-20th century, except a few books by national writers. Most of the library, consisting of 400 items, is displayed in the permanent exhibition at the Pavle Beljanski’s Memorial. This exhibition features the most significant books, furniture, and personal collector’s items. Modern technologies will enhance the touring experience, helping the audience learn about the exceptional value of the Pavle Beljanski Book Collection and its importance for understanding the personality of the great diplomat and the era in which it was assembled. The exhibition is accompanied by the Book Collection catalogue, which is important for the systematic processing of The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection.
