Lecture Fashion in the World of Vidosava Kovačević
Lecture
Saturday, 17 January, 1 p.m.
Draginja Maskareli, museum advisor, Museum of Applied Arts, Belgrade
The artistic and personal trajectory of the painter Vidosava Kovačević was largely shaped by her belonging to the world of bourgeois Belgrade at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Photographs of Vidosava and the people who surrounded her, as well as some of the portraits she painted, testify to the important role of fashion in expressing the bourgeois ideals of the time. The wedding dress of Vidosava’s mother, Draga, which is today preserved in the collection of the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade, is of particular significance for the history of fashion and bourgeois culture in Serbia.
