ALTERNATIVE VERSION OF CUCA SOKIĆ: DRAWINGS
National Library of Serbia
November 20, 2025 – January 31, 2026
The exhibition Alternative Version of Cuca Sokić: Drawings opens on Thursday, 20th November 2025, at 6 p.m. at the National Library of Serbia in Belgrade. It was developed in 2024 through a collaboration between The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection and the National Library of Serbia to mark the 110th anniversary of the artist’s birth, and was first presented to the Novi Sad audience at the Memorial Collection. The exhibition’s curators are Milana Kvas MA, museum advisor, and Gorana Stevanović, library advisor.
The exhibition features 143 drawings donated generously by the Gatalović family, who gifted over 800 works on paper by academician Ljubica Cuca Sokić to the National Library of Serbia and The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection. These works offer a fresh perspective on the artist’s remarkable creative personality.
The exhibition aims to present to the public the lesser-known part of her graphic oeuvre, created from the late 1930s to the late 1970s, and to express gratitude to the Gatalović family, whose long-standing donations of Ljubica Sokić’s works to both institutions have contributed to the preservation, study, and promotion of the national cultural heritage. The exhibition display is further complemented by the artist’s personal belongings kept in both institutions. The exhibition is accompanied by a beautifully illustrated catalogue designed by Veljko Damjanović, while the exhibition layout was created by Dr Dragana Vilotić.
The exhibition was made possible by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia and the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information, and Religious Affairs.
