CHARACTERS AND PERSONAS: 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ARTISTS’ MEMORIAL
Thursday, 8 April, 7 pm
The exhibition, Characters and Personas: 50th Anniversary of the Artists’ Memorial, by the senior curator Marta Đarmati, runs from Thursday, 8 April, and takes place in the Memorial Collection. This exhibition is one of the events which marks the 50th anniversary of the Artists’ Memorial and sixty years since the opening of The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection to the public. Besides the exhibition, the visitors will be presented with the most recent monograph and interactive application for the young dedicated to the Artists’ Memorial.
The Artists’ Memorial was first opened for the public in October 1971, on the 10th anniversary of the The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection. It was initially designed as an exhibition of portraits, self-portraits and documentary material dedicated to the artists from the collection of Pavle Beljanski. The concepts and visuality of this space have changed several times during the five decades, but the basic idea of evoking the memory of the artists and their lives has remained to this day.
The exhibition shows portraits or self-portraits of all thirty-five artists whose art is preserved in Beljanski’s collection as well as other artworks and items which reveal the details about their characters, personas, work and everyday life. Part of the exhibition will be dedicated to the Artists’ Memorial and earlier displays in this space. The chamber exhibitions dedicated to most significant procurements will take turns during this event along with a diverse accompanying programme such as lectures interpreted in sign language, projections, workshops and plays, which will take place during the national event Museums for 10 and 17th European Night of Museums.
This project has received support of The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, The Provincial Secretariat for Culture Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and The Radio and Television of Vojvodina (RTV).
